On Dutch Ignorance

Living in Amsterdam and visiting Amsterdam are two completely different things. There is a lot happening in Holland that you cannot see if you are only here for a couple days or even weeks. However, I’ve been here for almost a year now and let me tell you I’ve seen, heard and experienced some UNBELIEVABLE shit. I would have never thought that a country like the Netherlands which is widely known for it’s tolerance is so ignorant when it comes to other races. I mean besides the annually occurring Zwarte Piet outburst, just the everyday ignorance is what bothers me the most. I’m not even someone who makes a big deal out of race, I had to deal with this my whole live I swear I could care less. But when I saw this image all over my Facebook today, I felt like sharing it here. Dutch fashion magazine Jackie thought it was a good idea to run an article, describing the style of what they would call ‘De Niggabitch’. THIS my friends is the extent of ignorance I’m talking about. It’s not just okay to say whatever you want, you can also actually print it. I think the main issue is that they don’t see the problem. There’s no political correctness, nor any sensitivity for other people’s feelings. I just feel incredibly sorry for all the black girls that have to grow up in this environment, struggling to work through these labels.

Oh btw it gets more disturbing when you actually read the article. It basically claims that Rihanna has street cred and a ghetto ass which makes her the ultimate Niggabitch, but since Dutch winters aren’t like Jamaican ones (I know Rihanna is from Barbados, tell the editor in chief) you can’t walk around half naked all the time. That’s why you have to change the style a bit, but it’s still all about tiger prints, pink shizzle and everything bling. Also, the last sentence implies that they most likely have babies. I can’t make this up.
